Exciting performances by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra are always popular, as are the summer Concerts on the Green.
For a special trip, visit during one of New Haven’s Festivals. In April, see Film Fest New Haven, presented at three theaters and featuring documentaries, short films and full length movies. In June, New Haven hosts the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, a unique festival including almost all of the performing arts, debates and discussions. The New Haven Jazz Festival is free for all music lovers and is held on the Downtown New Haven Green.
If you need a quiet spot after all this sightseeing, visit East Rock Park. The largest park in New Haven, East Rock has a bird sanctuary, nature trails, picnic areas and great views of the Long Island Sound.
One of many historical churches in New Haven, the First Church of Christ features great architecture and a crypt with tombs dating back to 1687, some of the oldest in the nation. The Amistad Memorial traces the beginnings of the abolitionist movement in the United States to this famous court case argued by John Quincy Adams.
